Methodology
What is counted. Every store on the official provincial or territorial list of licensed or government-run cannabis retailers that we publish (see how we verify). Stores marked closed, duplicates and listings removed by their owner are excluded. Unlicensed sellers are never listed or counted. Ontario counts only stores the AGCO has authorized to open.
Communities. The city, town or municipality name on each registry, grouped by a normalized name within its province. Registries name places differently (for example a neighbourhood instead of the municipality), so community counts are approximate.
Per 100,000 people. Stores divided by the Statistics Canada, Table 17-10-0009-01, Population estimates, quarterly (July 1, 2026) figure, times 100,000. Source: Statistics Canada, Statistics Canada Open Licence. This does not constitute an endorsement by Statistics Canada of this product.
Freshness. Each province shows the date we last checked its registry. Registries update on their own schedules, so a store that opened or closed recently may not be reflected yet.
What it is not. These are counts of stores. They say nothing about sales, consumption or demand.
